This Tudor Gothic mansion is located in Port Talbot, Wales, and is considered by many to be one of the most haunted places in the UK. Its reputation is built on a combination of tragic history, violent historical crimes, and consistent testimony from security staff and paranormal investigators.

  • Robert Scott: The Angry Gamekeeper

    • The History: Scott was a head gamekeeper for the estate. On June 8th, 1898, he confronted a poacher named Joe Lewis. Lewis, a former soldier, shot Scott in the face and shoulder, killing him.

    • The Haunting: Scott’s spirit is frequently reported on the Grand Staircase. Unlike many "residual" hauntings
(which act like recordings), Scott is described as an intelligent, angry presence.

    • Activity: He is blamed for poltergeist activity, specifically the throwing of rocks and stones at visitors. Psychics often claim he feels rage about the injustice of his murder.

  • The Victorian Children

    • In contrast to the gamekeeper, the sound of giggling children is frequently reported, mainly within the upper corridors and the nursery areas.

Activity: This breed is known to be mischievous, regularly moving things and opening and shutting doors.

Sightings: Reports of children in Victorian-era clothing materialising and vanishing into doorways.

  • The Blacksmith

    • Activity: He is most often seen by gamekeepers and gardeners maintaining the vast grounds. He is described as a large, imposing figure who watches the staff work.

Reported Incidents by Staff & Investigators

Reports come from two distinct groups: employees who know the building's daily rhythms and visiting paranormal teams.

Staff Experiences (Security and Groundskeepers)

  • The Running Footsteps: The night security guards have reported that they hear heavy footsteps coming from the higher floors continuously when the building is locked and empty.

  • Chattering Voices: Empty room conversations were reported by guards. When they get in to investigate, the voices stop, and the room is vacant.

  • "The Presence": Many staff refuse to enter parts of the castle on their own at night, claiming a feeling of being watched or followed by a "dark shadow."

Investigator Reports-TV Shows & Private Teams

  • Physical Attacks: In investigations, as evidenced by the program Most Haunted, there have been accounts of physical sensations, hair being pulled, and feelings of tactile contact by unseen forces.

  • Projectile Throwing: Throwing small stones or pebbles is one of the common reports on the Grand Staircase during seances or vigils. This is almost exclusively attributed to Robert Scott's spirit.

  • Equipment Manipulation: Investigators often capture sudden battery drains and EVPs that seem to be intelligent responses to questions. It usually involves swearwords or telling visitors to "get out."

  • The "White Lady": Several investigators have reported a female entity, speculated to be Emily Charlotte Talbot, though she is less aggressive than Scott.
