It is commonly known as a highly active ghost location and is a much sought-after location for ghost-hunting events. Ghostly activity and sightings are extensive and consistently reported by staff and visitors.

What hides in the shadows

    1. Being observed: Staff and visitors consistently report a haunting feeling of being watched, even when alone.

    2. Moving objects: Objects are reported to move by themselves without a cause.

    3. Physical contact: Visitors have reported being touched or even pushed by unseen hands.

    4. Disembodied voices and sounds: Voices are primarily heard when nobody else is around. This includes strange sounds, knocks, bangs, eerie voices, and the laughter and footsteps of children.

    5. Staff members complain

      regularly about the lights flickering and self-closing doors.

    6. Uncomfortable temperature fluctuations:
      Guests have witnessed 
      sudden, inexplicable drops or rises in temperature.

    7. Sense of extreme discomfort:
      The majority of individuals experience an overall sense of extreme discomfort and unrest in specific areas of the residence.

    1. A ghostly Victorian woman: 

      Perhaps one of the most common 
      sightings, she's typically a woman in Victorian dress, seen standing by the big 
      staircase, and a chill sometimes descends after her vision.
      She has also been spotted looking 
      out of an upper front window.

    2. A playful child ghost:
      Laughter echoes, and tiny footsteps echoing in empty rooms are attributed to a child ghost, which is often reported as warm and mischievous.

    1. Eventful and rich history:
      The 18th-century Georgian mansion house boasts over 250 years of history, with some reported deaths having occurred within its walls.

    2. Past occupants:
      It has had some illustrious residents, including Lady Cornelia Wimborne (niece of Winston Churchill), who died there in 1927.

    3. War Office requisition: The house was requisitioned by the War Office during World War II, adding yet another layer to its already rich history.

    4. Slave Trade Association:

      There are also rumours of a dubious history of the slave trade, which could be responsible for lingering energies.

    Due to the frequent reports and varied occurrences, Merley House is a popular haunt for ghost-hunting groups and paranormal investigation teams, where they attempt to establish contact with the reported spirits through various means and equipment.
